It's Beginning To Look...

.. a lot like Christmas! We have decked our halls and drank our nog. The house is decorated - let the festivities begin.
Here are Richard and JJ decorating the tree. Our tradition is that someone in the family will hide the "Pickle" ornament on Christmas Eve. This year it is JJ's turn. Here he is pretending to hide it amongst the branches.

Here is a picture of the outside of our house. This year we went with colored lights.
Here is the finished tree. Appropriately adorned with special ornaments from over the years. These ornaments are from Cindy's childhood. The Santa Claus is the first ornament that Cindy's Mom bought for her on her first Christmas - 1959. The Egg was made by Cindy's cousin Nona. We have a dozen of them that we hang with care - each and every year.
The Santa Claus below belonged to Cindy's Daddy. It is almost 90 years old. The Mushroom was one of the ornaments that Cindy's Mom bought. She liked unusual and special ornaments.
Here are some ornaments that belong to Cindy and Richard. The First Christmas 1987 was purchased on Cindy and Richard's honeymoon in Boston MA. The heart was given to them by Cindy's Dad.
Here are two of several special Ballerina ornaments that Cindy's Dad, and special friends have given to her over the years.
And here is the finished product.
We wish all of you a happy holiday season and hope that the hustle and bustle don't get you too stressed. Sit back, enjoy a treat, a cup of eggnog, and relish in this special time of year. Christmas is the BEST!

The tree looks very lovely. This year we put up a different tree, it's white and we only put a white angel on top, plus blue lights. The box of ornaments was stored up so high that my daughter and I couldn't reach them, Abe had stored them several years ago, because for the past several years I have used Fiber Optic trees and did not hang any ornaments. Next year I will probably go back to the Fiber Optic, very easy to set up and take down. Decorating a tree is very hard on my back, Abe has never been one to help with it, never liked doing it. I told our daughter that had to move back home for a while, with her 8 year old daughter, that next Christmas if they are in their own place again, they can have the white tree. It is very pretty. And it's amazing how nice it looks without the ornaments. The 8 year old Granddaughter already has a lot of ornaments, except they are stored someplace in their storage shed.

Very lovely decorated tree Cindy! I love your ornaments - especially the mushroom (how quirky! cute!). We don't put up a tree since no children, but I decorated our mantle. I'd like to see a picture of the pickle ornament!

And to add to the festive holiday spirit, check out my pictures of snow in NOLA... better yet, check out nola.com for even more pictures.

We're such a pair of sentimental old ladies! I love my ornaments as much as you do. Next to my photos, they are my most prized possessions. I wish I had some from when my parents were little though. I hope Alex will treasure them when I'm gone....

Very cute. Isn't the pickle thing a German tradition?

Thanks for the sweet comments. Yes, I am a sentimental old lady... I do love my ornaments.

Yes, Megan, the pickle ornament tradition is a German one. I heard about it several years ago and thought it sounded fun. So, we become "German" on Christmas Eve. :-)
