T.V. Time with Daddy – Sentimental Sunday No. 24

I loved the times I had alone with my Dad. They were special times, and memories I will cherish forever. We didn’t have to be doing anything special… just spending time with my Daddy was all I needed. I loved crawling up in my Dad’s recliner chair with him; we would cuddle and watch television. I don’t really recall what shows we watched, but I know I was always happy and safe when we were together.
I do have one standout memory of us watching “Combat” together. It was on for five seasons from 1962 to 1967. I couldn’t tell you what episode it was; or when it aired. But, I can tell you that I enjoyed it – because it was time I spent with my Dad.

With all of the negative press about kids and tv, we must realize that tv can be a great part of family togetherness. You have just illustrated that. :)

Those sweat memories are being again created with you and young son, John. 'Family togetherness' is continuing.

Abe watched that every week, and at the time, we had only one TV, so if the kids didn't want to watch it, they played in their own rooms, or some games together until something they liked better was on TV. Abe or I was always watching TV with the kids in the evenings. And we would explain to them, what was good and what was bad. Now a days TV is a baby sitter for a lot of children and I think they think what they see is all real.

I agree with you Patty. I try to spend time watching shows with John and having those great conversations that can take place because of them. As Jason pointed out - tv does receive a lot of negative press. But, I believe it is because parents can't or won't watch the same shows as their kids, and then the "babysitting" comes into play.

Besides - spending time together as a family is priceless.
